Data Food Consortium: a common and open digital language to develop short circuits

With the development of food tech, more and more services in short food circuits are provided via computerized tools: production monitoring, plot management, product catalog management, online sales via e-commerce tools, invoicing, accounting, etc.

Today, these tools operate globally in a logic of silos and despite the existence of some Application Programming Interface (expensive to maintain), they do not communicate enough with each other (they are not "interoperable" enough). As a result, food system stakeholders are faced with multiple data entry requirements, inventory management issues, and numerous manual operations to compensate for these cross-platform communication inabilities.

The consortium objective is to support, equip, and give more space to producers, independent distributors, and short circuits by bringing together short supply chain actors around a ‘project of interoperability’ between short supply chain platforms in order to allow them to communicate with each other.

By promoting cooperation between actors in the food chain, interoperability strengthens synergies and innovation within the short circuit ecosystem.

This allows, beyond the services and models proposed by each one, to work together to build an open and transparent food system, allowing the emancipation of both producers and eaters.
