UN Pre-Summit Event ‘’ Strengthening food systems transformation through agroecology’’ on 27 July at 19:30 CEST
On 27 July at 19:30 CEST an affiliated session to the Pre-Summit of the United Nations Food System Summit (UNFSS) ‘’Strengthening food systems transformation through agroecology’’, co-organized by the Food Policy Forum for Change was held online.
The aim of the event is to pull the agroecology-related strings together that have emerged in the UNFSS preparations and to translate them into calls to action and commitments. The session provided space for various constituencies from different contexts to demonstrate how agroecology works in practice and how they overcame obstacles and limitations, share their commitments (e.g. on social media) and invite others to act. The shared experiences will help build and strengthen multi-stakeholder coalitions to transform food systems based on agroecological principles.
Speakers:
- Urs Niggli, Member of the UNFSS Scientific Group and the Swiss National FAO Committee;
- Estrella Penunia, Secretary-General, Asian Farmers Association;
- Alwin Kopse, Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture and Roberto Azofeifa, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Costa Rica;
- Lauren Baker, Senior Director, Global Alliance for the Future of Food;
