Introduction to political agroecology

The intention of this book is to provide a common framework of analysis for agroecological collective action. It is to provide the epistemological and theoretical arguments that push towards the construction and development of this field in order to try to operationalize the struggle for agrarian or agri-food sustainability. It is also about elaborating an analysis of the agri-food crisis that can not only be shared by a significant majority of those working in this field, but also provide a common analysis in which to include proposals that can adequately guide collective action from an agroecological perspective. There are many different types of diagnoses of the agri-food crisis, many of which have little agroecological content. In short, it is a matter of laying the theoretical and methodological foundations of a common agroecological strategy built from agroecology itself, covering the different levels at which collective action is considered and the different instruments with which it can be developed. Any strategy consists of defining the tasks necessary to advance in the transition towards agri-food sustainability, but also of prioritizing them and defining the most effective instruments for achieving this objective.

The book is prepared by the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO)’s Working Group ''Political Agroecology''.
