Soil fertility has been conventionally defined as the capacity of the soil to supply sufficient nutrients to the crop, ensuring its growth and development. Today we know that soil is more than just a nutrient supplying substrate of nutrients; the soil is a living system where organic matter (OM) and minerals form an organic-mineral framework that conditions its properties.
