Implementing SDG 2 in Sustainable Agriculture through Agroecology

In this publication the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) & FAO Office in Spain present the overview of the advancement of agroecology in the global context by focusing on the recent development in Spain.  The publication consists of three main sections. The first introduces the concept of agroecology, the current world food context of agri-food systems and how agroecology has evolved in recent years in the international context and in FAO itself. In the second section the results and experiences of the three conferences co-organized in inclusive and participatory manner by FAO-Spain and AECID, together with other partners from civil society are presented. The section moreover briefly reviews the evolution of agroecology in Spain, taking into account the impetus given by public administrations, parliament, academia and civil society organizations.
In the last section, the conclusions illustrate the potential of agroecology to transform food systems and achieve the goals of Agenda 2030. It focuses on the ways for improving family farmers´ livelihoods by practicing sustainable, multidisciplinary and multi-stakeholder agriculture.
