The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) makes a call for a paradigm shift to foster the agroecological transition of agrifood systems

A group of researchers from CGIAR centers and the main French research organizations, including the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD) calls for a paradigm shift in the research agenda to foster the agroecological transition of the agrifood system. In the call for action, some forty researchers following a workshop initiated jointly by France and CGIAR, investigate how to increase the research budget allocated to agroecological transition. The researchers claim that agroecology research must play a central role in the moves to bring about sustainability, health, equity, and food security transitions in agrifood systems. However, it is assessed that the agroecology research agenda is still largely overlooked in agricultural research strategies. The researchers and research organization are expected to make a long-term, active commitment to support an increase of the research budget allocated to agroecological transition.
