Guidelines and policy recommendations for the development of agroecology in Uruguay

This publication is the second in the series entitled Ideas for Emerging Agencies and was prepared as part of the initiative to promote the agroecological transition led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The objective of this initiative is to contribute to a national debate that will promote the scaling up of agroecological production and generate strategies for the sustainable development of the Uruguayan agrifood system.

Agroecology proposes a paradigm shift towards sustainable food and agricultural systems that guarantee food and nutritional security to help reduce socio-economic inequalities then to increase the conservation of biodiversity and the ecosystem services on which agriculture depends.

This publication proposes strategic recommendations and technical guidelines for policies and measures that will serve as concrete inputs for the National Agroecological Plan and for the Promotion of the Agroecological Transition within the framework of a renewed multidimensional development strategy.
