Agroecological Transition Toward Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems

As part of the Collaborative Crop Research Program of McKnight Foundation, a team made up of Regional East and Southern Africa (ESAF) CoP team members, Research methods support (RMS), FAO Agroecology team, designed a series of workshops to co-develop an approach to envisioning agroecological transitions.

The workshops sought to strengthen the understanding of agroecological transitions and intensifications by identifying entry points, plausible transition pathways, and blockages or opportunities. Workshop sessions involved more than 30 participants, including representatives from 10 projects from Uganda, Malawi, Kenya, and Tanzania. Participants appreciated the agroecology transitions visioning tool, which stimulated a more holistic reflection within research teams and across the ESAf Farmer Research Network.
