BioNatural Healing College (BNHC): Healthy Diet of Saharan Algeria Population

In the Sahara region of Algeria (84% of the territory), a healthy diet is based on dates, milk, and cereals, nutritious food, from ancient times to the present day. However, despite the dietary changes today, this food is considered one of the most sustainable food systems of the Saharan population, for its diverse health benefits. This study from BioNatural Healing College (BNHC) highlights the most important healthy diet dishes based on dates, milk, and cereals through a descriptive and analytical investigation, of some desert areas in the oases: Touat, Gourara, Tidikelt, and Tamanrasset. The field visits revealed the major and most important healthy dishes and recipes used by the population in their daily lives are fresh and dried dates (Phoenix dactylifera), milk and cheese, cereals: wheat (Triticum), barley (Hordeum vulgare), and pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum); to prepare, soups, bread, and couscous. In conclusion, the study shows that the healthy diet of Saharan can be an example of healthy eating in the world, due to the simplicity of its preparation and its hygiene safety. This heritage diet must be recognized through scientific proof.
