Agroecology Knowledge Hub

Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) 2023 Side event "Harnessing agroecology through partnerships to transform food systems'' on 29 March 2023, 12:00-13:15 Bangkok, GMT+7

By 2030, the demand for food and fiber is expected to more than double. Viable alternatives to climate-vulnerable,input-intensive agricultural approaches are needed to boost climate resilience, meet food security and nutrition needs and ensure ecosystem health in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Organized by ESCAP, FAO and the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), this side event at the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2023 will focus attention on multilateral and multi-stakeholder cooperation to accelerate the uptake of agroecology approaches in support of food system transformation.

Aligning with this year’s APFSD’s focus on SDG 11 among others, this event will explore agroecology as an opportunity for food systems transformation which positively impacts the range of SDGs, through the lens of SDG 17. It will be most useful for Government officials and stakeholders seeking opportunities for joining and strengthening subregional, regional and global partnerships and understanding how governments are moving forward together on agroecology and sustainable agriculture.

Key outcomes

  • Increased awareness of the modalities and opportunities for strengthening multilateral and multistakeholder cooperation on agroecology approaches
  • Increased opportunities for partnership development on agroecology transition.
