Brokering innovation and fostering action learning – towards promoting “agro-ecological- entrepreneurship” in the new Cuban economic model
This paper describes action research intended to transform a food system in a country that is still governed centrally by administrators who assume that industrialised agriculture, based chemical fertilizers and pesticides, is the only route to feed the country’s population and create prosperity. The authors have been encouraging action learning around an alternative agro-ecological model. Since they are excluded from democratic means of influencing the government, the only alternative route is entrepreneurship. In a country still imbued with the spirit of solidarity, this is not pure neo-liberal entrepreneurialism, but rather one with a socialist ethos.
