LEISA Agroecology Magazine: Livestock farming, which way?
In most of the countries of the South, where there are family farming units, livestock activity is part of the production system. The peasant farmer has always managed his resources in an integrated manner, of which his animals are a vital part, and their breeding and management are expressions of the tradition and living culture of each village. At present, the value of animals as a means of capitalization for small farmers is widespread throughout Latin America, especially in those agroecosystems where environmental conditions make agriculture a difficult activity to predict.
