Protocols for innovative agroecological soil, water and integrated pest management practices: Management techniques, trials establishment and monitoring

This technical guide helps farmers and land managers understand and apply innovative agroecological practices. Created within the CGIAR Agroecology Initiative (AE-I), the guide promotes context-appropriate agroecological methods to improve farming sustainability. It focuses on three key areas: soil management, water management, and integrated pest management (IPM). The guide outlines techniques, materials, and benefits of these practices, while providing steps for setting up field trials and monitoring results.

Divided into four chapters, the manual covers basic skills, trial setup, and participatory data collection methods. Its goal is to guide users in implementing and improving agroecological practices while encouraging knowledge sharing among farmers and food system actors for broader adoption. Practices trialed by farmers are tested for performance to refine and scale up sustainable solutions.
