AGROECOLOGICAL URBANISM: What is it, why we need it, and the role of UN-Habitat
The current urbanization model contributes to climate change, soil degradation, biodiversity loss, and disconnection from nature, leading to unsustainable and unhealthy diets. A comprehensive transformation of urban and agricultural policies is essential to achieve sustainable urbanization. Agroecological urbanism offers a promising solution by addressing climate challenges, promoting soil regeneration, conserving resources, and supporting sustainable farming while creating socially just and sustainable urban habitats.
This brief outlines how UN-Habitat can play a key role in adopting and promoting agroecological urbanism at the rural-urban interface.
