Voedsel Anders Conference 2020: Towards fair and sustainable food systems
The Dutch leg of Voedsel Anders (Food Otherwise) is a network of farmers, fisherfolk, scientists, beekeepers, students, artists, academics, policy makers, journalists and other active citizens in the Netherlands and Belgium engaged in building healthy food systems. This Network claims that the current agrifood system is depleting the soil and biodiversity, causing major greenhouse gas emissions and squeezing farmers out of business. They promote sustainability with good and healthy food that is produced regionally, with fair prices and dignified lives for farmers, fishermen and citizens, while respecting the environment and biodiversity.
The Voedsel Anders Conference 2020 will take place on 3-4 April 2020 at the Wageningen University in Netherlands. Wins, barriers and solutions in our joined quest to an alternative food and farming system will be identified and reflected. The Conference will touch upon questions such as: What have we already achieved and what were the factors of success? How can we identify and deal with barriers? What possibilities and opportunities lie ahead? Can we strengthen the food and farming movement whilst making it more inclusive and diverse?
Workshops form the heart of the conference. Around 80 workshops will be offered about themes as diverse as healthy soils to no-waste cooking and from establishing food cooperatives to strengthening the movement. In addition to the workshops, there will be an ‘Inspiration Carrousel’ showcasing specific initatives, organisations or movements. Farmers market, a virtual reality tour through farmers fields and several excursion will be offered to enrich the Conference with practical experiences.
