Webinar: COVID-19 - A Wake-Up Call for Food System Change in Africa on 14th July 2020

The Alliance for Food Sovereignty Activists (AFSA) organizes a conversation with the African Union and Food Sovereignty Activists from all sub-regions of Africa on the COVID-19 crisis.  The webinar aims to discuss the weakness of current food systems and the fragility of Africa’s dependence on imports of staple foods and agrochemical farming inputs. This conversation will unpack the issues  of COVID-19 crisis on food system fragilities and seek sustainable solutions – asking tough questions such as:

- What guidance is the African Union giving to member states, and to what extent is it working?

- Where do African people get their food? How are the market systems coping?

- What is the situation of women and young people?

- What is the impact on pastoralists and their livestock?

- What is the situation in the north of Sahara?

- Where do we see the role of the industrial food system in the COVID crisis?

- What are the implications for food sovereignty?

- What is happening to support the transition to agroecology?

The 90 minutes event will be interpreted in English, French, and Portuguese.
