Simultaneous interpretation and language-specific group work: English – French – Spanish.

The workshop is part of the program of the Organic World Congress.

The purpose of this training workshop is to share innovative experiences in transforming local food systems, to deepen our understanding of the "how" of transformation processes, and to learn what needs to be taken into account so as to replicate them.

During the workshop, we will guide participants in preparing their own journeys through the manual in search of practical ideas and “tricks of the trade” that respond to the innovation needs of their activities on the ground.

The workshop has two objectives:

1)       Introduce the FAO/ National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRA) publication: Enabling Sustainable Food Systems: Innovators’ handbook;

2)       Enable participants to learn how to use the book in training for food systems change.

The workshop responds directly to the need for systems change toward sustainability and it will offer a hands-on learning experience for participants who are facing challenges in expanding the production and consumption of organic food.

Both the topic and the pedagogical approach of this workshop is important because we are at a critical point where the action is needed for systems change to occur. Organic actors have long been experimenting with new ways of creating knowledge, new forms of guaranteeing organic quality, new relationships between producers and consumers, new business models and new forms of political engagement. The workshop will enable them to compare what has worked, and what hasn’t, and think collectively about new strategies that they can implement in their own food systems.

Expected outcomes:

1)       Exchange on the variety of innovations necessary to create sustainable food systems

2)     Build the network of food system innovators who can use the handbook to implement change in their local food systems

3)     Gain skills for using the handbook to train food system actors on innovations in food systems.

Program:

The training workshop will take place entirely online. It is divided into four interdependent sessions:
