PRESS RELEASE: Himalayan Agroecology Initiative: Pioneering Sustainable Food Systems in the Himalayas
The Himalayan Agroecology Initiative (HAI) is a newly launched multistakeholder effort aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture in the Himalayan region, particularly in India, Bhutan, and Nepal. Supported by the World Future Council and IFOAM – Organics International, the initiative seeks to build resilience among farmers facing climate challenges. HAI's goals include enhancing biodiversity, promoting sustainable farming practices, and fostering strong value chains. The project involves the creation of country-specific roadmaps through consultations, with the final plans to be presented at an international conference in 2025. This collaborative initiative aims to establish agroecology and sustainable food systems that benefit both the environment and local farmers.
