Effects of magnetic fields on the mung bean structure of root, stem and leaf under Cd stress

In order to determine the effects of magnetic fields on the structure of root, stem and leaf under Cd stress in Mung bean (Vigna radiata), changes in the leaf conductivity, root length, shoot length, fresh weight, chlorophyll concentration and structure of root, stem and leaf were analyzed. The results indicated that: (1) the conductivity was gradually enhanced with increased magnetic field; (2) pre-treatment of 400mT, 600mT and 800mT could significantly improve the growth of the seedlings and the leaf chlorophyll concentration. Best effects were observed at 600mT; and (3) for the leaf structure, spongy tissue (st) and palisade tissue (pt) were thinner with 5μmol Cd·L-1. However, in the case of 600mT pre-treatment with the same 5μmol Cd·L-1 concentration, both st and pt thickness recovered. Similarly, cell size of vascular tissue (vt) for the root and stem structure diminished under 5μmol Cd·L-1 while the pre-treatment of 600mT magnetic field allowed the recovery of the original size.
