Life-threatening heat waves, forest fires, hurricanes, droughts and floods mean that climate change must be tackled on a ‘war footing’. A rapid and substantial reduction...

Achieving Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) at landscape level is possible, but also very challenging, especially with scarce or non-existing data for making well-informed decisions. To tackle this, the Drylands Sustainable Landscapes Impact Program (DSL-IP), a multi-country endeavor supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), has developed its Integrated Landscape Assessment Methodology (ILAM), aimed to...

This piece from Dr. Manuel Villalobos, Dr. Saruth Chan, Dr. Dao The Anh, senior officials from FAO member states, makes the case for agroecology as a ‘front line’, systemic solution to the climate crisis, while addressing multiple crises. Current food systems are responsible for one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions and...

This brief from Pesticide Action Network focuses on the climate footprint of pesticides, pointing out this under-researched area of concern, particularly given the rising attention to food systems and their climate footprints.  A key aspect is the impact of pesticides on soil health, and therefore the ability of soils to...

This briefing calls on governments to mobilise finance for the large-scale transitions needed towards climate-friendly food and farming. This will involve switching funding and subsidy support from globalised, fossil-fuel intensive, long-distance linear supply chains to re-localised agri-food systems; reducing the gross inequalities associated with greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in and between...
