A field experiment was conducted to study effects of different rice-based cropping systems on diseases, pests and weed (DPW) hazards and yield of rice. The experiment included four treatments: conventional rice farming system (CR) as control, conventional Oenanthe javanica farming system (CO), conventional intercropping of rice with Oenanthe javanica (CRO)...

A significant progress had been made in the theory and practice of rice-duck farming in China in recent decades. Attained theoretic achievements include effects of rice-duck farming on: 1) nutrient cycle, matter and energy flow characteristics in paddy fields; 2) pest and disease control and the dynamic relationship between pests...

Rice-duck farming is an organic farming system for the maintenance of soil fertility with duck manure. Such system helps reduce the pollutants induced by chemical fertilizers and pesticides use. Nevertheless, the productivity of such organic farming system is frequently limited due to the lack of sufficient chemical fertilizers. In order...

A considerable amount of evidence has shown that intercropping enhances biodiversity, which in turn suppresses pests and diseases. However, few works have been done on exploring the possibility of intercropping rice with other crops in wetlands to reduce pest/insect damage via diversified agro-ecosystem. In this study, a field experiment was...

An experiment was conducted to ascertain the effects of Cd stress on the PS II chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in leaves of Thalia dealbata and rice in both the intercropping and mono-cropping systems as well as the uptake and accumulation characteristics of Cd by both species. The chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in...

Legume-cereal inter-cropping can improve nitrogen (N) use efficiency and crop yields. Numerous attempts have been made to examine the effects of legume-cereal intercropping patterns in upland and dry fields. However, the rice-legume inter-cropping in irrigated farming systems remains to be investigated. In this study, a field experiment was conducted to...
