The series serve as a dedicated space to showcase experts' knowledge and how their research, initiatives or products contribute to agricultural transformation and sustainable development, in a globally interconnected ecosystem, leaving no one behind.
Join us on Friday, June 7, at 14:00 CEST for a virtual presentation on the ‘Synergy of multi-source satellite observations for crop stress monitoring amid global climate change’ by Dr. Tian Hu, Research & Technology Associate, expert in surface radiation budget estimation, surface energy balance modeling, thermal infrared radiative transfer modeling, ecohydrology, and vegetation stress monitoring at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST).
With the pressing issue of food security in the 21st century and global warming and extended drought periods being major concerns, increasingly challenging sustainable food supply, timely and accurate monitoring of crop heat and water stress stands today as a promising way forward for mitigating the detrimental impacts on crop yield caused by these stressors. Due to the large spatial coverage and public accessibility, satellite observations show great promise in mapping crop stress more accurately, with thermal and hyperspectral missions under preparation and great advancements in physical and statistical models for estimating key variables of plant functioning.
