The Third Session of the Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture was be held virtually from 1-3 June 2021. The Session was convened under the Regular Programme of the Organization.
The Working Group was established, on an ad hoc basis, by the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture at its Fifteenth Regular Session in January 2015 and established as a regular Working Group at its Seventeenth Session in 2019.
Issues addressed by the Third Session of the Working Group included:
- The finalization of the The State of The World’s Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture for food and agriculture
- The preparation of the draft Global Plan of Action for the Conservation, Sustainable Use and Development of Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture
- The development of a global information system for farmed types of aquatic genetic resources for food and agriculture
The Commission also requested the Working Group to explore:
access and benefit-sharing
- digital sequence information
- the role of genetic resources in mitigation of and adaptation to climate change
- applications of biotechnologies in management of genetic resources
- possible reorganization of the Commissions future intersessional work
