FAO Programme Coordinator in Armenia Botagoz Nartayeva and WHO Representative in Armenia Dr. Siddhartha Datta discussed partnership priorities.

The agencies will enhance collaboration to support Armenia in implementation of the second National Strategy on Prevention and Control of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and its multi-sectoral action plan.

Both agencies had a crucial role in developing the strategy aligned with the WHO Regional Roadmap on AMR and One Health approach. As a multi-sectoral initiative, the strategy implementation requires joining efforts by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Environmental Protection, Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.

The support provided will emphasize the interlinkage between human, animal, and environment health and prioritize key areas, including strengthening AMR surveillance in human and animal sectors, capacity building, and awareness raising.

FAO and WHO in Armenia will also enhance cooperation in nutrition area. The priorities are food-based dietary guidelines and nutritional assessment of street food offerings through FEEDcities project in Armenia.

The assessment aims to describe the content of macronutrients, including fats and trans-fatty acids, as well as the salt composition of the foods sold in the streets, based on bromatological analyses of locally obtained food samples
