2021 International Plant Protection (IPPC)- Asia Pacific Plant Protection Commission (APPPC) Regional Workshop

This was the second time this regional workshop was held virtually. The previous one was held in September 2020. The 2021 IPPC-APPPC Regional Workshop will discuss three basic areas including nine of the draft specifications and draft International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs) out for consultation, the regional action programme, and the updating of IPPC issues. 

Participants include representatives from the APPPC member countries and the IPPC Secretariat.  Prior to the workshop, they’re requested to give their comments/sub-reviews on the following nine topics related to draft specifications and draft ISPMs thru the Online Computer System (OCS) established by the International Plant Protection Commission (IPPC).

1.       2021 First Consultation: Draft Revision of ISPM 4 (2009-002),

2.       2021 First Consultation: Draft ISPM for the Use of Specific Import Authorizations (2008-006),

3.       2021 First Consultation: Draft ISPM: Revision of ISPM 18 (2014-007),

4.       2021 Second Consultation: 2019 & 2020 Amendments of ISPM 5 (1994-001),

5.       2021 First Consultation: Draft CPM Recommendation: Reduce the incidence of contaminating pests (2019-002),

6.       2021 Second Consultation: Commodity-based standards for phytosanitary measures (2019-008),

7.       2021 Second Consultation: Audit in the Phytosanitary context (2015-014),

8.       2021 Second Consultation: Focused Revision of ISPM 12 (“re-export”) (2015-011), and

9.       2021 First Consultation: Draft Specification for Reorganization of Pest Risk Analysis standards (2020-001).

Their comments/sub-reviews on the topics will be discussed in detail at the regional workshop.  In addition, apart from the APPPC Strategic Plan, there will also be updates on governance and strategic issues which include Governance and Strategy by the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM) and CPM Bureau of the IPPC, Update from the Standards Committee (SC) and Update from the Implementation and Capacity Development Committee (IC).
