Four UN agencies to reveal present state of hunger and malnutrition in Asia-Pacific

Joint-report presents new data and analysis on the implications for countries of the world’s most populous region trying to achieve the global Zero Hunger Goal by 2030

Bangkok, Thailand – Four specialized agencies of the United Nations have joined forces to reveal the present state of hunger, hidden hunger, obesity and malnutrition in Asia and the Pacific.

The region is home to well over half of the world’s 821 million undernourished. However, the countries of the Asia-Pacific region had pledged to eliminate hunger by 2030 – just 12 years from now – as part of their overall commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The report raises a number of serious concerns about the present situation in combatting hunger and malnutrition across the world’s hungriest region. It also examines the present ability of the region as a whole to achieve SDG-2, the “Zero Hunger” goal by 2030.

The report will be published jointly by FAO, UNICEF, WFP and WHO. This is the first time that these four leading UN agencies in Asia and the Pacific, responsible for helping member countries achieve food security, improved health and maternal and child welfare, have jointly published such a report.

Findings of the joint-report, Asia and the Pacific Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition, will be published on Friday, 2 November at 9 AM, at the Plaza Athenee Hotel in Bangkok.
