FAO at Asia Pacific Climate Week

Hosted by the government of Malaysia in the city of Johor Bahru, the Asia-Pacific Climate Week 2023 will take place from 13-17 November at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre.
FAO together with partners will co-host a series of side events on climate actions, innovations and partnerships to transform agrifood systems to be more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.
Taking Integrated Action on Climate and Nutrition: Introducing I-CAN

This side event during Asia-Pacific Climate Week will introduce the Initiative on Climate Action and Nutrition (I-CAN) that was launched by the Government of Egypt, as COP27 President, in partnership with WHO, FAO, GAIN, SUN, the UN-Nutrition secretariat and other partners to foster collaboration to accelerate transformative action to address the critical nexus of climate change and nutrition.
Youth-Driven Resilience: Climate-Resilient Food Systems in Asia-Pacific

The objective of this event is to showcase youth leadership in scaling solutions for climate-smart food systems and highlight opportunities for cross-sectoral collaboration. The event will feature youth-led success stories, develop a roadmap for elevating youth involvement in policymaking, ensuring that future strategies are both progressive and grounded in real-world experiences and ignite a continuous dialogue ensuring sustained momentum in youth-driven climate-smart initiatives.
Re-imagine climate resilient and low emission agrifood systems in Asia to accelerate actionable decarbonization pathways

This event is aimed at gaining insights from foresight planning efforts that have aided the transition to low-carbon agrifood systems while identifying climate-smart agriculture technologies and innovations that can accelerate changes in the region. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with a growing community of foresight practitioners, fostering knowledge exchange on best practices, lessons learned, and challenges.
Transformational adaptation with forests and trees: securing rights and accessing finance at the local level

This dialogue across sectors will bring together scientific and local knowledge to leverage the power of forests and trees for transformational adaptation. The event will share good practices of adaptation measures that have proven feasible and with synergies and co-benefits, leading to proposals for upscaling and further regional and global exchanges in the build up to COP28.
Increasing Climate Ambitions through High-Integrity Forest Carbon Markets

This dialogue will explore the role of forest carbon in broader climate strategies and NDCs; policy levers for transitioning to high-integrity forest carbon markets; and how raising forest ambition could result in additional benefits whilst keeping the goals of the Paris agreement alive. It will formulate actionable recommendations to bridge the finance-ambition gap, thereby significantly contributing to the Global Stocktake process.
“Early Warning for All” as a platform for cross-sectoral collaboration to address the impact of the 1.5 C climate trajectory

Early Warnings for All (EW4A), is a USD 3.1 billion Global Initiative launched during COP27. Built around four pillars, EW4A aims to ensure everyone in the planet should be reached by Early Warnings Systems by 2027. In Asia-Pacific, several organizations members of the Technical Working Group on Anticipatory Action (TWG on AA) participate in EW4A by leading pillars or by implementing activities in the field. This session will bring a panel of TWG and Governments counterparts to discuss effective mechanisms for cross-pillar and inter-ministerial collaboration to design and implement people centred anticipatory actions and build communities capabilities to prepare and respond to multiple climate hazards.
