Second Joint Workshop on Fostering Parliamentary Action and Collaboration for Effective Implementation of the ASEAN Guidelines on Promoting Responsible Investment in Food, Agriculture and Forestry

Bali, Indonesia

24/07/2024 - 25/07/2024

Recognizing agriculture’s critical role in poverty alleviation and food security, ASEAN Member States have highlighted the pressing need for more responsible investments in this sector in the ASEAN Guidelines on Promoting Responsible Investment in Food, Agriculture and Forestry (ASEAN-RAI), which were adopted in 2018 based on the Committee on World Food Security’s Principles for Responsible Investment in Agriculture and Food Systems (CFS-RAI).

Following the successful workshop on ASEAN RAI held from 24-25 April 2024 in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, FAO, in collaboration with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), with support from the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, is organizing the second joint workshop to enhance the effective implementation of ASEAN RAI. This event will bring together AIPA Member Parliaments, policymakers, and representatives from the private sector, civil society, and academia to foster collaboration on promoting sustainable development and responsible investment in the agriculture sector across the ASEAN region.

The workshop will focus on:

  • Fostering a cooperative environment involving multiple stakeholders and sharing concrete examples of the application of RAI in the ASEAN region, ensuring that diverse perspectives and expertise contribute to more robust implementation strategies.
  • Deepen the understanding of parliamentarians and stakeholders and facilitate the implementation of the ASEAN RAI.
  • Finalize the Parliamentary Implementation Framework, which was developed during the first workshop.
