Background

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) supports its Members in building inclusive, efficient and sustainable agrifood systems (crop and livestock production, forestry, fisheries and aquaculture). Since its inception, FAO has developed a broad range of relevant resources, including standards, guidelines, accounting and monitoring tools, codes of conduct and other normative or policy instruments.

In December 2022, the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) adopted at its fifteenth meeting the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), setting out an ambitious roadmap for a world living in harmony with nature. The direct links to agrifood sectors in many targets of the Framework means that actors in agrifood sectors have an important role to play in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the actions needed to meet these targets. A broad range of FAO’s resources can support this.

The need for a searchable, web-based database of existing FAO resources on biodiversity in the agricultural sectors has been expressed by FAO Members on several occasions, including in global and regional Multi-stakeholder Dialogues on Biodiversity Mainstreaming across Agricultural Sectors in the context of the elaboration of the Strategy on Mainstreaming Biodiversity across Agricultural Sectors and the 2021–2023 Action Plan for its implementation.

Launch of the FAO Biodiversity Knowledge Hub

In celebration of the anniversary of the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) invite you to a webinar to launch the FAO Biodiversity Knowledge Hub on 19 December 2023, 15:00-16:00 CET / 09:00-10:00 ET.

The FAO Biodiversity Knowledge Hub will help users access and use existing tools, guidance and other resources on biodiversity developed by FAO. The aim is to strengthen capacity to mainstream biodiversity in agrifood sectors and assist policymakers and other actors to implement and monitor the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
