Biotechnology in West and Central Africa
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), one of the 16 research centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, has just published "Agrobiotechnology application in West and Central Africa (2002 survey outcome)". This 107-page document, by W.S. Alhassan, presents an in-depth study of the agricultural biotechnology capacity in seven surveyed countries - Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte dIvoire, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal - where the strengths and weaknesses of the countries surveyed for biotechnology are presented, together with the potential for biotechnology development. A range of other topics, such as the national biosafety situation, is also discussed. See http://www.iita.org/info/Agrobiotech.pdf or contact [email protected] for more information.
