Risk assessment and regulation of transgenic insect release
On 8-12 April 2002, a meeting on the "Status and risk assessment of the use of transgenic arthropods in plant protection" was held at FAO Headquarters, Rome, organised by the Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture and the Secretariat of the International Plant Protection Convention. The goals of the meeting were to review the current status of transgenesis in pest arthropods; identify risks associated with the release of transgenic arthropods; and draft provisional risk assessment protocols.
