FAO and Belgium discuss vision and priorities on emergencies and resilience

01/10/2021

The need for a more effective response to emergencies and humanitarian crises, as well as the worrying food security situation in Ethiopia and Afghanistan were among the issues that were discussed during the meeting between FAO Director for Emergencies and Resilience, Rein Paulsen, FAO Brussels Director, Raschad Al-Khafaji, and the Belgian Director for Humanitarian Aid and Transition, Erik de Maeyer.

Both sides recognized the importance of strengthening joint advocacy efforts on flexible funding, emphasizing that strong communication efforts on the innovative partnership between Belgium and FAO are key.

Belgium is a strong supporter of FAO’s humanitarian and resilience work. Its commitment to providing flexible funding has strengthened FAO's ability to use more innovative ways to deliver results and respond more quickly to emergencies.
