09/02/2024

The FAO Liaison Office with the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium participated in the first European Summit dedicated to adaptation issues “Climate Chance Europe 2024 Wallonia Summit”. Organized under the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Summit resulted in the “Liège Declaration”, which constitutes an ambitious collective roadmap that will mark a decisive milestone in the work of the Belgian Presidency.

FAO Brussels Director, Raschad Al-Khafaji, intervened in the session on Resilient Food Systems organized by the Sustainable Development Department of the Walloon Public Service (SPW), where he presented the current state of global food security and underlined the urgency of transforming the global agrifood systems-based on the key messages emanating from FAO’s most recent flagship publications, including The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, The State of Food and Agriculture, and FAO’s most recent publication, Achieving SDG 2 without breaching the 1.5°C threshold: A global roadmap.

The session proceeded with interventions from Amaury Ghijselings from CNCD-11.11.11, Marion Tanniou from France urbaine and Inès Sneessens from the Sustainable Development Department of SPW.
