Camelids | Heroes of Deserts and Highlands: Nourishing People and Culture

In our new temporary exhibition we look at evidence of awareness of camelids in the Western world through printed sources available in the Library. Come and learn about the fascinating Camelid family that includes dromedaries, wild Bactrian camels, Bactrian camels, guacanos, llamas, vicuñas, alpacas! The exhibition coincides with the International Year of Camelids (IYC 2024), as declared by the United Nations. "Camelids are key to the livelihoods of millions of households. Camelids contribute to food security, nutrition and economic growth as well as holding a strong cultural and social significance for communities across the world."
