Camels and Food Security Conference

Kuwait City (Kuwait), Hybrid Event, 29/10/2024 - 30/10/2024

Despite its profound cultural and economic significance, camel rearing is confronted with several challenges in many regions around the world. Among others, issues such as insufficient data on camel population, inadequate animal tracking systems, and limited research on camel welfare, health, and diseases hinder effective sector development. Scarcity of natural resources such as water and feed in arid and semi-arid regions, compels countries to depend on imports with significant financial burdens.

In recognition of the International Year of Camelids, the Camels and Food Security conference will be held in the State of Kuwait in 2024. At a critical time when global challenges such as food security and climate change are escalating, this conference will explore the role of camels in promoting sustainable development and enhancing food security. The conference will feature discussions on improving agricultural methods to increase animal production, adopting modern animal rearing technologies that consume fewer resources, and enhancing animal health and regional cooperation in veterinary medicine.

Experts, researchers, and policymakers are invited to raise awareness about the significance of camels as a sustainable animal resource, exchange knowledge on advanced pasture management, address animal diseases, utilize modern technologies in molecular biology and genetics, and refine methods of animal statistics, numbering, and tracking.

The conference aims to highlight the importance of camels as national wealth and emphasize the contributions of efforts being made in animal production and health from both government and private sector to enhance the sustainability of the sector and its role in achieving food security. The significant development in camel rearing and the industry of camel products, with successful examples from the GCC states and elsewhere, will be showcased.

The conference will primarily consist of oral presentations, although poster presentations of high quality may also be accepted. Presenters are requested to submit an electronic copy of their abstracts by 25th August 2024. Notification of abstract acceptance will be sent by 10th September 2024. The number of presentations accepted will be limited by the time available during the planned conference.
