The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) opened its 43rd plenary Monday 17 October 2016, chaired by the CFS Chair H.E. Amira Gornass. A video message by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was broadcast in the Plenary hall and then speeches were delivered by FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva, Kanayo F. Nwanze, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Elisabeth Rasmusson, Assistant Executive Director of the UN's World Food Program (WFP) and Patrick Caron, Chairperson of the High Level Panel of Experts (HLPE).
In view of the international agreements on new global Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, there is agreement that we need to forge ahead with coordinated action to transform the world's food systems and improve food security and nutrition for all!
