Mary Robinson's Keynote @ CFS42

14/10/2015

Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and current president of the Mary Robinson Foundation for Climate Justice, during her keynote speech at CFS, praised the importance of the work of the HLPE with the following words:

The Committe on World Food Security, will need to continue to play a role [in the area of knowledge], supported by the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition, in addressing emerging issues and challenges for the sector.

and,

For example, it would be useful to add the knowledge base on rights-based approaches to reslience building in the food system, both in the context of climate change and global economic shocks. The recent report of the High Level Panel of Experts on Water, Food Security and Nutrition, provides an excellent foundation for this work, emphasizing, as it does, the need to realize rights to land and water to ensure food security and nutrition.

Her speech is truly compelling and inspiring, we invite everyone who missed it to view it here! (Mary Robinson's speech starts at 6:20)
