Outcomes of the Public Event in Bern!

On November 15th 2018, the HLPE and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) co-organized an joint seminar on the topic: Agroecology: A contribution to transformative change towards sustainable agricultural and food systems to achieve the 2030 Agenda

The event was introduced by Bernard Lehmann, Director of the Federal Office for Agriculture and by H.E. Mario Arvelo, Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic and Chair of the CFS. Among the high level speakers, Isabelle Chevalley, member of the Swiss Parliament, as well as representatives of the private sector, of academic institutions, of the CNS-FAO, of NGOs and of farmers’ organizations. This international seminar provided an opportunity to exchange views on the potential of agroecology to foster food system transitions towards sustainability. On behalf of SDC Director General, Pio Wennubst, Vice Director General of SDC concluded the meeting stressing diversification and proximity as two key pathways towards more sustainable food systems.
