Second Global Plan of Action on Plant Genetic Resources: Regional consultation held in Cali, Colombia
Cali, Colombia. Regional consultations on the review of the Second Global Plan of Action for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture were held in Cali, Colombia from 21 to 23 May 2024. FAO National Focal Points for Plant Genetic Resources and National Focal Points to the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture from more than 20 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean gathered at the premises of the Alliance Bioversity International & CIAT to discuss priorities for the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources.
The regional consultations were held to review and revise the Second Global Plan of Action in response to findings of The Third Report on the State of the World’s Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. A first draft of the Third Report was launched in July of last year on the occasion of the 19th Regular Session of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. The periodical reports on the state of the world’s plant genetic resources and the rolling global plan of action prepared under the guidance of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture are also support the implementation of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.
