Milestones and achievements

2022

The Global Plan of Action for the Conservation, Sustainable Use and Development of AqGR is published and a prototype of AquaGRIS, a global information system for AqGR, is released.

2021

The Commission, at its Eighteenth Regular Session, approves the Global Plan of Action for Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, which is subsequently adopted at the 168th Session of the Council.

2019

FAO launches the first report on The State of the World’s Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, developed under the aegis of the Commission, on the occasion of the tenth session of the COFI Sub-Committee on Aquaculture in Trondheim, Norway. The report is the result of a global and interactive process, drawing upon submissions from 92 countries, together representing 96 percent of global aquaculture production and over 80 percent of global capture fisheries production.

2019

The Commission decides that the Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture should become one of its regular intergovernmental technical working groups.

2015

The Commission establishes the Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture to guide the preparation of and review the first report on The State of the World’s Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.

2008

At its Eleventh Regular Session in 2007, the Commission supports the preparation of the guidelines Aquaculture development – 3. Genetic resource management, which support FAO's Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries. They provide a set of instruments that support the improvement of genetic resources management in aquaculture and are addressed to decision-makers as well as to senior resource officers, consumers and others interested in responsible fisheries and aquaculture.
