Objective / Goal |
Component 1: Assessment of climate change impact on agriculture Nation-wide assessment of projected impacts of climate change on agriculture at the sub-national scale for evidence-based adaptation planning. Component 1 contributes to the following policy questions
Component 2: Vulnerability analysis Food security vulnerability analysis at household level as the result of climate change and mapping of vulnerable locations and households Characterizing vulnerability to food insecurity under climate change, and identifying variables associated with the highest levels of vulnerability.
Component 3: Enhanced capacities of vulnerable communities to adapt to climate change Linking or integrating impact and vulnerability assessments (top-down) with community-based adaptation assessments/analyses (bottom-up).This Component is applicable only for Asian recipient countries (The Philippines and Indonesia).
Facilitating governments to plan climate change adaptation, based on the information from Components 1, 2 and 3. The output also aims to support mechanism(s) to institutionalize impact assessments and vulnerability analysis, and subsequent adaptation planning for climate change and food security. This component is only applicable for Asian countries (The Philippines and Indonesia). |
Beneficiaries |
Climate change impact studies can be disconnected from stakeholder decision making . At the same time climate change adaptation projects can lack a solid evidence base climate impacts and vulnerabilities. To fill this information gap, FAO implemented a project named “Analysis and Mapping of Impacts under Climate Change for Adaptation and Food Security (AMICAF)”. AMICAF employs a multi-disciplinary assessment approach to address climate change impacts and adaptation planning to improve food security. The outputs of this project - support strategic planning, investments and decisions by national policy makers. In the second phase of AMICAF (AMICAF-SSC), from 2015 to 2018, FAO is attempting to replicate the AMICAF approach through the South-South Cooperation scheme (SSC) in two new recipient countries: Indonesia and Paraguay. The AMICAF framework consists of four components that can support recipient countries to address food insecurity resulting from climate change. |
Activities |
Recipient countries in the first phase were the Philippines and Peru. FAO is carrying out the South-South Cooperation approach in two new recipient countries. |
Impact |
Multi-disciplinary assessment for Policy Planning AMICAF employs a multi-disciplinary assessment approach to address climate change impacts and adaptation planning to improve food security. The approach ensures that there is an evidence base for decision making and policy planning processes. This project supports strategic planning, investments and decisions by national policy makers. |
