Objective(s) of the engagement

The partnership aims to synergize and amplify the work of both organizations in achieving food security and better nutrition outcomes, and providing more sustainable livelihoods for small producers in Egypt. Key priorities for collaboration include impact evaluation of food security initiatives, joint small producer support programmes, and policy support to the Egyptian government.

Progress to date
  • Since 2020, the Egyptian Food Bank (EFB) and FAO have worked together to promote awareness of and behavior change toward more nutritious and sustainable food consumption patterns, collaborating on various technical and policy dialogues which address key underlying issues like social protection, rural and agriculture development and food systems transformation.
  • EFB and FAO also collaborate on an annual social media campaign to reduce food waste during the month of Ramadan, a time when food waste generally peaks.
