A wide variety of livestock systems shapes diverse landscapes

Agricultural system

French breeding is characterised by a great diversity of species and breeds adapted to different natural conditions. It contributes to sustainable landscape management, the maintenance of permanent grasslands (with a positive impact on biodiversity and soil carbon) and the creation of an active rural fabric. For example, the development of leguminous plants in fodder systems is a major challenge for improving grassland productivity, strengthening food and protein autonomy while providing benefits. This contributes to improving farm resilience and reducing input use.

French livestock value chains are committed to the fight against climate change through numerous initiatives (the low carbon dairy farm, the beef carbon initiative and life green sheep).
