Papa chilota

The Chilean native potato or chilota potato, named for itcenter of origin, Chiloé, is the only native potato adapted to long days on the planet, that is, to 16 hours of light. It is for this reason that it is one of the favorite choices of potato breeders and creators of new varieties from around the world. More than 90% of the varieties consumed in the world are descended from chilota potatoes. It is estimated that there are more than 300 varieties of native potatoes in the archipelago, all belonging to the subspecies (Solanum tuberosum ssp. Tuberosum).
