FAO in Mongolia

Mongolia became a member of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on November 12, 1973. A national office was established under multiple accreditation in Ulaanbaatar on July 1, 2009, and was upgraded to full representation in 2018. In alignment with FAO’s Global Strategic Framework and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), FAO Mongolia has developed a new Country Programming Framework (CPF) for 2023–2027. This strategic framework ensures a tailored approach to Mongolia’s specific needs and priorities, focusing on sustainable development. FAO’s initiatives in Mongolia are driven by the overarching goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, aiming to achieve food security, improve nutrition, and enhance rural livelihoods. FAO’s work in Mongolia is deeply rooted in collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders, including resource partners, the scientific community, civil society, and local herder communities. These partnerships are crucial in driving sustainable outcomes, strengthening agricultural resilience, and advancing environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation.
