Regional capacity building workshops on Animal Genetic Resources

04/06/2024

Every 10 years the FAO prepares a report on the State of the World’s Animal Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, based on information provided by countries. The previous report (the second) was published in 2015.

In July, the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture requested FAO and countries to begin the process of preparing a Third Report.

With the financial support of Germany, a series of online and physical meetings have been organized to support the National Coordinators for Animal Genetic Resources Management, in reporting for the third report and to provide training on topics related to community breeding programmes, data collection, conservation, management and development of animal genetic resources, particularly in developing countries. Between April and June, four regional meetings were held in person in Panama, Cyprus, Kenya and Malaysia. Around 65 national coordinators took part.
