FAO Director-General meets China’s Vice Minister of Natural Resources

21 October, 2019, Rome - FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu met today with Wang Guanghua, Vice Minister of Natural Resources of China, to discuss ways to pursue sustainable development at a time when natural resources are strained and climate change poses new challenges. 

The two agreed to strengthen cooperation on preserving and protecting biological diversity. They also expressed willingness to promote ecosystem-based projects based on Nature-Based Solutions, an area in which China has considerable experience, often in relation with FAO’s Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems programme.

The Director-General signaled his appreciation for the Ministry’s support and collaboration, while the Vice Minister confirmed his ongoing support for FAO, pointing to the agency’s soil protection efforts as an area of critical importance.
