Bilateral meeting the State Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries of the Republic of Uganda - The Honourable Bright Kanyontore Rwamirama

Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu and The Honourable Bright Kanyontore Rwamirama, State Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries of the Republic of Uganda, met today on the sidelines of the 43rd Session of the FAO Conference.

The Minister congratulated the Director-General for his re-election for a second term. He also thanked the Director-General for the support received to achieve Uganda’s Vision 2040 and Third National Development Plan – aiming to consolidate investments in production and productivity by promoting agro-industrialization for inclusive growth and household food security and nutrition. He also commended the Director-General for the focus on integrated water resources management and the round table events taking place during the Ministerial Conference to address the issue. The two discussed the importance of water and the reciprocal impacts with agriculture.

The Director-General assured the Minister of FAO’s continued support and commended the Minister on his vision to transform agrifood systems. He also highlighted the importance of national ownership for promoting innovative practices, technologies and business models for agro-industrialization and agrifood systems transformation, in line with the Government’s Parish Development Model. He encouraged the Minister to continue promoting the fisheries and aquaculture sector as they can also be key drivers for transformation of the sector in the country.
