Bilateral meeting with the Adviser to the President of Nicaragua for International Policy Affairs and the Greater Caribbean, H.E. Valdrack Jaentschke Whitaker

Rome – The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met with the Adviser to the President of Nicaragua for International Policy Affairs and the Greater Caribbean, H.E. Valdrack Jaentschke Whitaker, on the sidelines of the World Food Forum, which is taking place at FAO headquarters in Rome from 16 to 20 October.

The Director-General conveyed his appreciation for the participation of the Adviser to the President of Nicaragua in the FAO Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum, particularly in the special event to mobilize resources for the Central American Dry Corridor. Qu underlined that providing hope for young people in Central America through job opportunities is essential to tackle the roost causes of distress migration.

The Director-General also noted that in the coming years he will focus even more on improving the capacity of FAO decentralized offices to support FAO Members on the ground.

The Adviser to the President of Nicaragua acknowledged the FAO Hand-in-Hand Initiative as an important tool to help countries develop investment plans and mobilize resources. He also emphasized that is crucial to urgently promote the sustainable development of the Dry Corridor.
