Bilateral meeting with the Deputy Minister for Agricultural Development of Panama - H.E. Alexis Pineda Miranda

Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met today with the Deputy Minister for Agricultural Development of the Republic of Panama, H.E. Alexis Pineda Miranda, on the sidelines of the 43rd Session of the FAO Conference.

The Deputy Minister congratulated the Director-General on his re-election, and conveyed his appreciation for the Director-General’s leadership in important global issues such as food security and nutrition. He noted that, with FAO’s support and technical guidance in areas such a rural development and family farming, Panama has been able to reduce hunger substantially.

The Director-General recognized Panama's achievements and efforts and noted that the country is in a very good position to support the Central American countries that are part of the Dry Corridor. He also noted that Panama should seek to benefit from its geographic position to increase and strengthen its processing industry, not only in the food sector, and expand its exports to other countries, which could lead to an economic transformation for Panama.
